It has rained all the afternoon, so they could not pick. I am sorry, for they expected to have almost finished.
Clark Williams was here this afternoon and wanted all our pickers to go and pick a yard for him.

We done our iorning. Clara went up and got Ruth before dinner. We had chicken for dinner.

This has been a splendid day. Ruth and Melia and myself went down to meeting this morning and heard our new minister. I like him very much. For the first, his name is Van Morman [?]. He has only one arm.
Johnny Mendham and his wife was here this afternoon.

I have a throbbing ache to night for the first in a while [?].

Saturday, September 12, 1868

This has been a very pleasant day for picking, but it was wet this morning, and I cannot ____ them in the last night of the week, for I feel as though a day’s rest would do me much good.

David was here to day, but he is not coming any more. He says he has had enough of hop picking.

Friday, September 11, 1868

Well, we have had another wet day, but it has not rained enough to keep them from picking. Some have had another busy day. My [?] Mark and Frank Potts was here to day to see how we were getting along. They have not finished yet.

David has been here again to day but—poor fellow!—the girls plague him all the time.

Thursday, September 10, 1868

A very pleasant, warm day, but it clouded up and rained some. This has been another very busy day with us. We had Robert Harpin to pull poles to day in place of David, but the girls don’t like him as well as they do David.

We feel lonely without Ruth and the children.

Wednesday, September 9, 1868

Another very wet day, and a very busy day with us. It has not rained hard but just enough to make it disagreeable.
One of our hop-pickers was sick all night but is better this morning.
Ruth and the children went to the village visiting this afternoon.

They are getting along very well, picking their hops.
