Another day in the hop yard, and a very pleasant day! Ella and I picked 18 bushels to day. Maria was down a little while this afternoon. Oh, such times as __! We do have time, generly.
I saw David this morning.

I got a letter from Add this afternoon. They are all well out there.

Sunday, September 20, and Monday, September 21, 1868

Sunday, September 20 1868
This has been a cold, wet day but I have been on the gad[1] all day! First, we went up to Mr. Canip [?], and then we went from there to Jaakeway’s [?] to see if Ella could go and pick hops to Mr. Chappel’s, and she says she can, so we are going. We went from there to Mr. Palmer’s and then down to Chappels’.

Well, one day in the hop yard and a gay time we have had! Ella and I came down last night. We picked 12 bushels to day. Rob tends our box. Hannah Grow [?] and Lavina Shepherd picks at our box, and so does Mrs. Palmer and Maria Hulit[2]. We are having gay times.

Saturday, September 19, 1868

This has been a cold, windy day. We have been very busy and lonesome for the girls have not come home. I have had the toothache again to day. We cleaned our room and iorned up our bed clothes.
Rob has been at work for David to day, cutting corn.
Our folks have been cutting buckwheat.

This has been quite a pleasant day. There was a hard frost last night and the night before, too.
We have been very busy to day getting straightened up after hop picking. Maria washed this forenoon, and this afternoon we cleaned the front chamber. The men folks have been cutting corn. They finished to night.

Rob is helping David cut corn.

Thursday, September 17, 1868


This has been a very pleasant day. We finished picking to day at noon. Ruth started for home this morning at 6 o’clock. Will took her to Holly. He got back at 2 o’clock. Grockis [?] staid and helped Rob finish and then took the girls. Melia and Clara went, and the Stephens’, and the Jakway [?] girls went up to heart [?] kind [?]. I wanted to go very bad, but they thought I had better not go, and so I did not go.

Wednesday, September 16, 1868

This has been a cold, windy day, but they picked hops all day. Melia and I went out and picked 8 bushels. Clark Williams was here this afternoon to see if we have got through, for some of the girls are going to pick for him.
Ruth is packing her trunk, expecting to go home to morrow.

We have plenty of ripe peaches now.
