A beautiful day, and very warm. Maria did not come home last night, but she has been here to day.
We had a spiritual meeting here to day. Mrs. MaCain gave a lecture on various subjects. We had quite a crowd! There was Mr. and Mrs. MaCain and Mr. and Mrs. Chappel and Mr. and Mrs. Lyon and family, and two young men. She advises me to go to Saginaw this summer.

Niece Notes: The "Spiritual meetings" or "circles" at Milford are mysterious. While most Milford residents were Christian, there are hints of these meetings involving superstitions and contact with the spiritual world, possibly including seances as well as fortune telling. Mrs. MaCain organized and led them, and they were especially popular among the younger population.
