Friday, February 7, 1868

This has been a very pleasant day and it is a beautiful night. Melia and I are sitting up with Will tonight. The Dr. was here this morning. He said he was getting along as well as he could.
Add and Henry and the Children are all up to Robert Potts’s to day, visiting. Billy Stevens was up here this morning to see Billy.

Mother is about [sick] with headache.

***

Niece notes: Robert Potts owned a large estate near the middle of town that was one of the most popular spots for social gatherings. Also, someone recently asked me why these journal entries are so short. It's because the diary that Celia wrote in came with the dates printed on the pages, and there wasn't much space! Later she does get more adventurous with writing up the margins, etc.

This has been another very cold day. The snow is drifting like everything. Add and the Children and Maria and Henry have gone down to Mr. Sherwood’s to day.

The Dr. was here this morning to see Will. He thinks he is doing as well as he can.

***

Niece notes: Celia's sister Add had two young children, a boy and a girl. Their descendants live in Michigan to this day.

This has been a pretty cold day. We did not wash to day, for we had too much snow. The Dr. was here again this morning. He said Will is coming [along].

Our folk have all been down town to day. Ellie’s eye is some better, but it is very sore yet. Melia and I sat up with Will last night.

Snowing as hard as it can. We are all very much disappointed for we were calculating to go to Church. Mrs. Houchen and Lyda walked here to day. It does not snow in the afternoon. We all went down to Church in the evening and heard Mr. Crawford preach on the 3 books of John and 3V.

***

Niece Notes: Mrs. Houchen is a woman from downtown, and Lyda is one of her daughters. Mr. Crawford was the pastor of the Methodist church in Milford.

Saturday and still cold, but not as cold as yesterday. Floyd and Henry have gone to the village and Pa has gone [to] the Dr. and Will is gaining.

Cousin Tom is here again to day, and I hear he is married! He was married at the Episcopal Church in Detroit last Tuesday to Miss Louisa Clutton.

***

Niece notes: Floyd is Add's father in law and Henry is her husband.
