Wednesday, October 21, 1868

This has been a cold, stormy day. It has snowed and rained all day!
Rob came home this morning and went down town. Billy and Father took their apples down to the cider mill and fetched home 2 barrels of cider.

Melia and I have been sewing. She made a pair of drawers, and Clara went over to Nellie’s to have her gore [?] her dress, but she told her not to wear it, so she did not.

Monday, October 19, and Tuesday, October 20, 1868

Monday, October 19, 1868
This has been a pleasant day, but rather cold. Our folks commenced to day their potatoes, but some of them were froze.
We washed this forenoon, and this afternoon we put our soap grease in the kettle and commenced to make soap, but we have not got lye enough to finish it.
Clara went down town this afternoon and took 6 quarts of cranberries and sold them. She got 15¢.
Rob is at work for John Mendham.

Tuesday, October 20, 1868
This has been a very cloudy day. We iorned and set up a leach [?] this forenoon, and in the afternoon we sewed. I finished my Chemise.
The folks finished digging potatoes to day. Clara went out and picked them up for them. Rob is at work for John Mendham, husking corn.
Mr. Wells was here this morning to get the money for the hop stove, but he did not get it.

Saturday, October 17, 1868
This has been a severe cold day! We had a very sharp, cold frost last night. It froze everything up! It froze the potatoes that were not dry.
Our folks drawed in their corn fodder to day. They had 8 large loads.
Rob has been at work for David to day.
We moped and made pies and cookies, and then went cranberry [picking]. We got 5 quarts.
I don’t feel very smart; I have special company come this morning.

Sunday, October 18, 1868
This has been another dull, cold day. We had a very hard frost last night.
Maria came up to day. She got here about noon, but she has gone back again to night.
Mr. and Mrs. Houchens was up this afternoon.
It was so cold I did not go to church to day.
We had peaches and cream for tea to day, for the last this year.

I feel rather mean to day, but then it is for the best.

Friday, October 16, 1868

This has been a very cold, windy day. Our folks drawed in their corn and went to mill. Melia and I finished cleaning to front room and cleaned the bed room. We whitewashed it all over.
I sewed on my chemise this evening.
Rob has been at work for David to day, husking corn.
We have some peaches yet.

I cut up a pumpkin and put it into stew. We are going to have some pies.

Thursday, October 15, 1868

This has been a splendid day. We commenced to clean home to day. We cleaned the pantry and white washed the front room. Our folks finished husking their corn to night.
David was over to get Rob to help him to morrow.
I sewed up my chemise this evening. Miss Lottie Haiy [?] and Mr. John Pickett was married this morning at 7 o’clock.

Clara went cranberry [picking] this afternoon and got 2 quarts.

Wednesday, October 14, 1868

This has been a nice day, after the rain. Melia and I went down town this afternoon to mail that letter and get some time [?]. We called at old Mrs. Mccarty’s, and she gave us what time [?] we wanted.
Miss Lavina Shepherd and Thomas Russel was married this morning and have gone to Detroit on their wedding tour.

Rob has been at work for old Mr. Riley this afternoon.

Tuesday, October 13, 1868

This has been a cold, rainy day. We iorned and baked bread and pies, and I cut me out a chemise and commenced it.
The boys have been bailing the hops. They bailed 2 bails.
We got through paring apples for drying. This year we have dried a barrel!
I am taking my iorn again, once a day.

Rob went down town this evening, but he did not get any letter for me. I feel some disappointed. I answered Ruth’s this afternoon.
