Saturday, October 17, and Sunday, October 18, 1868

Saturday, October 17, 1868
This has been a severe cold day! We had a very sharp, cold frost last night. It froze everything up! It froze the potatoes that were not dry.
Our folks drawed in their corn fodder to day. They had 8 large loads.
Rob has been at work for David to day.
We moped and made pies and cookies, and then went cranberry [picking]. We got 5 quarts.
I don’t feel very smart; I have special company come this morning.

Sunday, October 18, 1868
This has been another dull, cold day. We had a very hard frost last night.
Maria came up to day. She got here about noon, but she has gone back again to night.
Mr. and Mrs. Houchens was up this afternoon.
It was so cold I did not go to church to day.
We had peaches and cream for tea to day, for the last this year.

I feel rather mean to day, but then it is for the best.
