Thursday, July 2, 1868

Another pleasant day, but very hot. Add washed.
A few things to day:
Henry has been digging to day to sow some buck wheat.
Miss Terry went home to night. She is going to have a week’s vacation.
We took a boarder to day. It is the person that is buying wool. He is going to stay 3 or 4 days and work for his board.

Oh—I got a letter from home to night! I answered it this evening.

Neice Notes: Boarders were common over the summer! Unlike today's farmers, farmers in the 19th century doubled as travelling salesmen and businessmen. They would often ride around the state in the summer to help others with their fields and to sell their own goods. Local homes would set up guest beds around the house and prepare for lots of company!
